US Army introduces video game weapons

The United States Army will introduce its own brand of video gaming peripherals as part of promotion efforts targeting young men, it’s been announced.

The range of weapons and communications gear will is designed to work with some of the world’s most popular titles, such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The peripherals include an “Elite Force Assault Rifle”, a “Sniper Action Rifle” and a “covert style” throat microphone for multiplayer action.
CTA DigitalTM, the firm making the officially-endorsed peripherals for PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox, said it was “honoured” to be involved.
The range is by no means the US military’s first attempt to promote itself to the video game audience. It has released “America’s Army”, a series of first person shooters available for free download.
The series was first introduced in 2002 to help address a recruitment crisis.
